Hyundai Sonata Reviews....They Ain't Bad...


The Sonata is a mid-size sedan car that has been produced by the Korean company Hyundai. It was first introduced to the US market for the 1989 model year. It was designed by Hyundai and featured a Mitsubishi engine.

These are some of the spec for the first model produced 1989-1993:

  • Engine – 2.4L I4 and a 3.0L V6
  • Horsepower – 110 (4 cylinder)
  • Most of these vehicles were built in the Bromont, Quebec.

The 2nd generation was produced from 1993-1996

  • Engine – 2.0L 126 hp and 3.0L V6 142hp
  • All of these Sonatas were built in Korea.

The 3rd Generation was produced between 1995 and 2005

  • Engine 2.4L 138hp and 2.5L V6 170hp
  • 2002 model featured the all-aluminum 2.7 L  V6  173 hp
  • Sales went over 100,000 in 2004

The 4th generation started in 2006 and is still going

  • The launch of the new Sonata in May 2005 marked the opening of the company’s first U.S. assembly plant. It is in Montgomery, Alabama.

  • Beijing Hyundai launched a redesigned 4th generation Sonata called the Ling Xiang for the Chinese market with an updated exterior and revised rear seating.
  • Hyundai has scheduled a hybrid Sonata. It made its debut at the Los Angeles International Auto Show in November 2008 and projects its release to the U.S. market in 2010.
