With a starting price of $22,000, it is the 2nd most affordable hybrid on the market. (The 2010 Honda Insight comes in at $19,000) It’s 51 miles per gallon in the city and 48 MPG on the highway gives it he best fuel rating by the EPA.

Mercury Mariner hybrid

A 3rd hybrid SUV is the Mariner hybrid comes in both front wheel drive, which achieves 34 miles per gallon in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. The 4WD version will get you 30 mpg in the city and 27 on the highway. A starting price of $29,995 makes it a pretty good value.

Honda Insight review and ratings

Coming in at $19,800, the 2nd generation Insight is the most affordable hybrid you can buy today. The EPA has rated the mpg at 40 in the city and 43 on the highway, but it does have an Eco Assist mode that, according to many highly read auto magazines and websites, can get the Insight closer to 50 miles to the gallon. It is the cheapest car with the best gas mileage and an excellent value to say the least.

Nissan Altima Hybrid

A new comer to the game in 2010, the price starts at $26,650 and the only mileage ratings we have is 35 miles per gallon combined. We shall see how it goes.
